As a project given to us, we were to Research an american author. Stephen king, being one of most intriguing horror Writers of our time, seemed to be the most interesting pick. his writing style is one very popular among readers young and old.
With popular Novels such as carrie, the shining, And IT, stephen king became A new york best seller. He writes his novels using Themes of horror, sience fiction, and mystery. Many of his more popular stories have been adapted into Movies, his most popular being The shining and shawshank redemption.
Stephen edwin king was born september 21, 1947 in portland maine. After the seperation of his parents, his mother moved him and his brother, david, to durham, maine. There, king began his education at the grammar school and later attended Lisbon falls high school. He graduated in 1966 and began his college career at the university of maine at orono. There he met his wife, tabitha spruce. They later married in 1971 and were blessed with three children, naomi, joe, and owen.
In the early years of his marriage, stephen struggled to support his family as a high school literature teacher. It Wasn't until his First big novel, carrie, was published that he began to write full time. With the help of his wife, stephen began writing more novels, which brought him recognition and wealth. Stephen and his wife now provide scholarships to high school students that are seeking literary degrees.
As king began writing he used multiple pen names such as john swithen and richard bachman. He believed that an author could not publish more than one book a year or the public would lose interest. He later disproved his theory. His first short story Was published in 1967 and was called the glass floor. He drew his inspirations from everyday things, but with a twist. Through his writings he became known as the "king of horror". In 2003, his also recieved The National book foundation medal for distinguished contribution to american letters.
